This Island in The Bahamas Is Getting a Major New Airport

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 17, 2022

A major new airport is opening before the end of the year on the island Great Harbour Cay in The Bahamas, Caribbean Journal has learned.

In a significant boost for Great Harbour Cay and the Berry Islands chain of The Bahamas, the island’s new international airport terminal is opening in the next two months, tourism officials say.

Dr Kenneth Romer, d Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Aviation and Investments and Acting Director of Aviation, led a recent delegation to the airport to inspect the newly-built project.

The island has long been a sought-after vacation home destination, particularly for visitors from South Florida, which has regular service to the island on Tropic Ocean Airways.

The new airport could be a game-changer for the destination, once home to a jet-set getaway in the 1960s that included an 18-hole golf course.

It’s part of a broader push by The Bahamas to transform airport terminals in the Out Islands.
