A Big Expansion for TUI in Barbados

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 23, 2022 - 3:09 pm

TUI UK is undertaking a significant expansion for the Barbados market this winter.

The company will be “soaring above” the levels of its last full winter season, according to Barbados Tourism Minister Lisa Cummins.

That will mean more than 54,000 planned seats to the island during the winter.

TUI is also homeporting two of its largest cruise ships in Barbados.

““We are pleased with the news that TUI UK will increase their Barbados programme for the 2022/23 winter season,” Cummins said. “This sheer size of this expansion underpins TUI UK’s confidence in Barbados.”

TUI had previously chartered seven flights per week of Barbados. This season, that number will rise to eight, with six per week from Birmingham, London Gatwick and Manchester airports.

That’s along with a strong cruise presence on the island.

“For the Winter 2022/23 season, TUI have not only increased their presence in Barbados from one to two cruise ships, but two of their largest cruise ships at that: Marella Explorer 2 and Marella Discovery,” Cummins said. “And what’s special is that this is not an air-to-sea charter, but has evolved to incorporate a dedicated land-based program for Barbados.”
