The historic Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando hotel in the Dominican Republic has named a new general manager, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The property, set in a centuries-old corner of Santo Domingo’s charming Colonial Zone, has tapped Luigi Di Ciaccio to the role.

“I am delighted to return to the Dominican Republic and honored to join the talented team of Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando Hotel,” Di Ciaccio said. “Together, I am positive that we will continue the legacy of service excellence and creating exceptional experiences for our guests, upholding the hotel’s remarkable history dating back more than 500 years as one of the first buildings on the country’s colonial land located on the first paved road of the New World.”

Di Ciaccio most recently served as the general manager of the Plaza Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

The 92-room hotel has a bar, an outdoor pool, a fitness center and a signature eatery called 1502, focusing on Dominican dishes with Spanish and other international influences.

The building dates back to 1502.
