Puerto Rico’s Luis Munoz International Airport in San Juan is seeing surging growth, according to new data from parent company ASUR.

The airport, one of the major regional hubs in the wider Caribbean, saw a 23.8 percent year-over-year increase in air traffic in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first three months of 2018.

That was buoyed by a 23.2 percent increase in domestic traffic (that is, from the continental United States), along with a 29.9 percent increase in international traffic.

It was a strong sign not just of rebound from Hurricane Maria but actually positive growth, as more and more carriers both expand capacity and add new routes to the destination.

ASUR also operates airports in Mexico and Colombia.
