Boutique cruise line Windstar Cruises has cut the first steel on what will be a $250 million fleetwide enhancement project.

The “Star Plus” initiative will take half of its fleet and renovate each ship, including Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride.

The work on the first of the three ships will begin in October, concluding with Star Pride in November 2020.

The projects will include new mid-body sections that will lengthen each ship by 25 meters, with each ship having an expanded capacity of 312 guests.

Shipbuilder Fincantieri is undertaking the project, which will also be renovating and modernizing each of the cruise ships.

That will include new public spaces, 50 new suites, new pool areas, restaurants, new spas and new “living room deck space.”

The first cruise on one of the transformed ships will launch March 20,2020 out of Miami — a first for the company.
