A legendary French Caribbean hotel is getting new life in one of Martinique’s hottest beach towns.

The Diamant Les Bains, which first opened in 1945 as the first tourist hotel in Martinique, is slated to open in 2019 after having been completely rebuilt.

The property will include a mix of five “bungalow” suites and 33 studio units with kitchenettes, along with a new bar-restaurant right on the beach and a pool with a view of the island’s famous Diamond Rock, or Le Diamant.

It’s a huge boost for a town that has quietly become a haven for in-the-know travelers, thanks to a world-class beach, a growing portfolio of eateries and, well, some of the best views on the island.
