Travel giant Sunwing has continued its Caribbean expansion with a pair of new routes from Quebec, the company announced.

Sunwing has begun operating the first-ever flights from Mont-Joli in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec to both Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Cancun, Mexico.

The flights are possible because of a major runway expansion project at the Mont-Joli Regional Airport.

“We were the pioneers and we are still the only ones to offer leisure vacations and operate from six Quebec cities,” said Sam Char, the executive vice president of Sunwing Travel Group for Quebec. “Cancun and Punta Cana are two of our most popular holiday destinations, so we are excited to offer these options to Bas-Saint-Laurent residents during our inaugural season in Mont Joli.

The flights will operate weekly on Boeing 737 aircraft through March 22.
