Copa, Lufthansa Sign Codeshare Agreement

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 9, 2015

Germany has a new gateway to the Caribbean Basin.

Copa Airlines and Lufthansa have signed a codeshare agreement for Copa flights to regional destinations, the two companies announced.

Copa flights in the current winter schedule from Miami to Panama are being operated under an additional Lufthansa flight number.

Additional codeshare flights on Copa from Panama will begin in March to cities including David, Guayaquil, Quito and San Jose.

“Copa Airlines is pleased to welcome Lufthansa to the Hub of the Americas in Panama City, Latin America’s largest and most efficient Air Hub for Intra-Latin America travel,” said Pablo de la Guardia. “This strong alliance partnership will permit passengers from all over Latin America, Europe and other parts of the world to connect quickly and efficiently while earning valuable miles and enjoying all of the comforts and benefits offered by both carriers.”

Lufthansa is launching Frankfurt-Panama service on March 2, using an Airbus A340.

“The new codeshare agreement provides passengers traveling from Latin America with even better access to the Lufthansa Group’s dense network,” said Felipe Bonifatti, General Director in Panama for Lufthansa. “Passengers traveling via Panama to Frankfurt on the new Lufthansa flight will experience the quality service and premium products that Lufthansa has always been known to offer, including our brand new Premium Economy Class that offers extra space for comfort and relaxation, as well as an elevated experience.”
