American Airlines is launching nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay starting Dec. 18, 2015.

The new route, which reportedly comes in response to rising demand from travelers, will provide the West Coast market direct service to Jamaica on Fridays and Saturdays.

“As the premier carrier to the Caribbean, these new flights highlight our commitment to providing our customers with a network that is second to none,” said Art Torno, American’s senior vice president International and Cargo.  “We are committed to Jamaica and this new route will further promote travel and tourism to the country.”

Jamaica’s Director of Tourism Paul Pennicook also welcomed the news.

“California is a notable market for Jamaica and the addition of this flight will increase the destination’s convenience to West Coast travelers,” he said. “We’re delighted to work with American Airlines to help travelers discover Jamaica’s beautiful attractions and outstanding hospitality.”

The service will operate on a Boeing 737-800 with 160 seats.
