Nepal Earthquake: Major 7.5-Magnitude Quake Rocks Country

Tragedy struck Nepal this weekend, with the country’s worth earthquake in almost a century killing more than 1,800 people.

The earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake, which registered a 7.5-magnitude on the Richter scale, struck at a depth of 11 kilometres at around 11:56 AM local time, the USGS said.

The epicentre was about 35 kilometres from Lamjung and about 77 kilometres northwest of the capital, Katmandu.

After initial reports of violent-to-extreme shaking in areas surrounding the capital, the highest levels of shaking on the USGS scale, reports began to stream in of the extent of the damage, which was astonishing.
