Caribbean Writers Gather in Guadeloupe

The French Caribbean department of Guadeloupe is playing host to writers from across the region this week for the 4th Congress of Caribbean Writers.

The conference, which is bringing together writers from 21 territories, lasts through April 18.

“The discussions are expected to centre on the diaspora, travel and migration issues,” according to a release.

Guadeloupe’s former director of cultural affairs, novelist Daniel Maximin, presented the inaugural address.

Some of the authors on hand this week include McDonald Dixon (Saint Lucia), Eduardo Lalo (Puerto Rico), Simone Schwarz-Bart (Guadeloupe), Yolanda Wood (Cuba), Elizabeth Nunez (Trinidad and Tobago), Delia Blanco (Dominican Republic) and Kwame Dawes (Jamaica).

This year’s congress is sponsored by the Regional Council of Guadeloupe.
