Trinidad and Tobago tourism authorities recently held talks with the Association of Caribbean States, the two sides announced this week.

The aim of the talks was to “facilitate dialogue on cooperation activities between the Association and the Tourism Authorities in their approach to sustainable tourism development,” according to a statement from the ACS.

Julio Orozco, director of sustainable tourism at the ACS, said it was important to stress cooperation in sustainable tourism in order to strengthen the countries of the Greater Caribbean.

He said the ACS was willing to foster closer collaboration with tourism authorities in Trinidad as part of the Sustainable Tourism Zone of the Caribbean, an ACS initiative launched last year.

According to Brian Gift, a tourism advisor at Trinidad’s Ministry of Tourism, the country pis planning a push to grow tourism in the country this year, including beach refurbishment projects, the restoration of cultural heritage sites and the expansion of airlift.

The latter got a boost earlier this month with the announcement of a new flight from Brazil to Tobago and a new Virgin Atlantic flight to Tobago.
