Dominican Republic-born artist Alfredo Scaroina will be making his New York City debut this month.

Scaroina is launching his “Reclamation” exhibition at the UNIX Gallery in New York from Oct. 16 through Nov. 20.

“Scaroina begins his creative process by absorbing themes and motifs in the world around him, and projects an image that resonates in the subconscious mind of his viewers,” the gallery says. “This methodology determines the form and content of each completed painting. Scaroina’s work thus presents an emotional and phycological dialogue that communicates directly to the collective humanity, transcending across cultures.”

Scaroina was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, studying at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas under artists including Migdalia Chavez and Spanish master Joaquin Castellote.

His work has appeared in collections in the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean, including a recent exhibition at Santo Domingo’s Museum of Modern Art.
