Ecuador has named its new Ambassador to Dominica.

The country’s new envoy is Ambassador Dr Galo Yepez Holguin, who presented his credentials to Dominica President Charles Savarin at a ceremony last week in Roseau.

“My country considers this step as the beginning of a new era of mutual understanding,” Holguin said.

Ecuador, like several of its neighbours in Latin America, has been stepping up its cooperation with the Caribbean region, particularly with Haiti.

Ecuador and Dominica established diplomatic relations in 2009.

“It is my expectation that during your tenure, it may be possible to explore avenues of such cooperation and political dialogue, and to discuss the status of trade integration between CARICOM member states and Ecuador,” Savarin said. “The potential for cooperation in sectors such as tourism, mining, agricultural research, fishing and flower production among others can also be discussed.”
