The Limacol Caribbean Premier League kicked off its second-ever season of cricket in Grenada on Friday night.

“After the huge success of the inaugural tournament we’ve got a lot to live up to but we’re confident this year will be even better,” said Limacol Caribbean Premier League CEO Damien O’Donahoe. “We’ve got some fantastic players coaches and mentors on board and you can expect bigger hitting, bigger crowds and an even bigger party.”

The Guyana Amazon Warriors topped the Antigua Hawksbills by two wickets to take the season’s inaugural match.

This season will see action at a host of stadia not included in last year’s season, including Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis.

The Jamaica Tallawahs, led by West Indies star Chris Gayle, took the inaugural championship last year.

“There’s nothing better than playing in front of full crowds in the Caribbean,” Gayle said ahead of the opener. “CPL is the Biggest Party in Sport and I’ve already seen how excited everybody is for the tournament to come to Grenada so I can’t wait to give the fans something to cheer about.”

The season runs from July 11 to Aug. 16, with 30 matches over 37 days.
