United States Vice President Joe Biden was set to arrive at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo on Wednesday.

Biden was visiting the Dominican Republic after having had to cancel a planned trip to the country in March.

That trip was canceled due to the need for a meeting with Ukrainian officials during the height of the Russia-Ukraine tensions earlier this year.

Biden was coming to the Dominican Republic from Colombia, which he visited as part of a wider regional tour that also included a stop in Brazil.

Biden last officially visited the Caribbean in the summer of 2013, when he traveled to Trinidad for a meeting with regional heads of government.

Ahead of Biden’s visit Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina met with Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso to address issues related to the visit.
