A new boutique hotel has opened its doors in Haiti.

The Monte Cristo Hotel and Suites, which is located on the road to Tabarre, is the latest in a string of either new construction or newly renovated hotels in the country, which has been putting a renewed emphasis on its tourism sector.

The hotel has 84 rooms, a conference area and a pool.

Jessy Menos, Haiti’s Secretary of State for Tourism and the Creative Industries, represented Haiti’s Ministry of Tourism at the hotel’s inauguration ceremony on Friday, joined by Haiti’s Director General of Tourism, Maryse Noel.

The hotel opened this week following the approval of the project just over a year ago.

The developer behind the hotel is Donald Max Guillaume, who is making an investment of what was most recently estimated to be about $9 million.

Recent hotels to open their doors in Haiti in the last two years include the Best Western Premier, the Royal Oasis, the Villa Therese and the reinvention of the former El Rancho hotel as the NH El Rancho.

Several others are on stream, including a Digicel-backed Marriott project and a recently-announced Hilton Garden Inn.
