KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Puerto Rico native Monica Puig lost her second-round match at the Sony Open on Friday against Denmark native Caroline Wozniacki.

Puig, a 20-year-old rising star out of San Juan, came into the match ranked 58th in the world, while Wozniacki came into play ranked 18th in the world.

After Wozniacki, a native of Denmark, dominated the first set, winning 6-1, Puig charged back in the second, similarly winning it 6-1.

But Wozniacki was too much in the third and decisive set, winning the first four games until Puig won her first.

Despite a late run from Puig, Wozniacki finished with a 6-3 win in the third set.

The loss came after Puig’s strong straight-set win against Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia in the first round earlier this week.

Puig had a number of fans on hand at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne.
