Caribbean Tourism Arrivals Projected to Grow 2 to 3 Percent in 2014

Tourism arrivals to the Caribbean are projected to grow between two and three percent in 2014, according to a new report from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

After the region saw 1.8 percent overall growth in tourist arrivals last year, demand for travel is expected to “remain buoyant” next year, the CTO said in its report.

Cruise activity is also pegged for an increase, with projected growth of 3 percent next year.

Overall, the Caribbean region saw an estimated 25.1 million tourist arrivals last year, up from around 24.6 million in 2012.

That number was dominated by the Dominican Republic, which received just under 4.7 million tourists last year, by far the most of any country in the Caribbean.

Cuba was second in the region in tourist arrivals, with a little over 2.85 million tourist arrivals in 2013.
