David Ortiz, who helped the Boston Red Sox win the World Series last month with an MVP performance, visited with Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina on Thursday.

The two sides “exchanged views,” according to a statement, while Ortiz gave Medina a commemorative bat.

Medina had congratulated Ortiz on his exploits in a letter last month.

“This is a time of special celebration that highlights his outstanding participation and leadership,” Medina said. ”

Ortiz’ success in October was part of a strong year for Dominican baseball, which included a victory by the country in the World Baseball Classic in March.

Medina called Ortiz “one of the greatest players in the Major Leagues.”
