Shortly after picking its new national song, Montserrat has chosen a national motto.

The island selected “A people of excellence, moulded by nature, nurtured by God,” as its new motto.

There were a total of 150 submissions reviewed, with a judging panel initially shortlisting eight mottos. Ultimately, two were combined to make the final choice.

Yvonne Getfield of Baker Hill composed “a people of excellence,” while Stephen Mendes of Woodlands wrote “moulded by nature, nurtured by God.”

They both agreed to the merger of the two submissions.
