Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will lead a delegation to Panama on Tuesday.

The trip comes in the context of the Americas Competitiveness Forum in Panama City, which lasts from Wednesday to Friday.

The government said Panama President Ricardo Martinelli had extended an invitation to Persad-Bissessar to be a “special guest” at the forum, which will cover regional infrastructure and logistics, regional education challenges and macroeconomic challenges, among other subject areas.

Martinelli himself visited Trinidad in 2012 for the Caribbean Investment Forum. Persad-Bissessar last visited the country in April 2012, when Trinidad and Panama signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector.

Trinidad will be hosting the next Americas Competitiveness Forum in 2014; Trinidad will be the next Chair Pro Tempore of the Inter-American Competitiveness Network.

The Prime Minister will lead a delegation that will sign a partial scope trade agreement with Panama during the visit.

Trinidad Foreign Minister Winston Dookeran and Ambassador Mervyn Assam will be joining the PM.
