The IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, has named Haiti native Jean Philippe Prosper its new vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Prosper, whose portfolio will also include Sub-Saharan Africa, will be based in Johannesburg after a short transition.

“Our activities in Latin America and the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa are critical to IFC’s global business and we will build on our success in these regions to have a more significant impact on poverty elimination through private sector development,” he said in a statement.

Prosper had previously served as the IFC’s director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Our focus in Latin America and the Caribbean is to promote inclusive economic growth, regional integration, innovation to improve competitiveness and climate change mitigation,” he said.

Prosper has also previously served as a professor at the State University of Haiti and worked at SOFIHDES, a private development finance company in Haiti.

In the early 1980s he worked as an advisor on financial affairs in Haiti’s government.
