United States Ambassador to Haiti Pamela White recently conducted a tour of Haiti’s northeastern region, visiting a series of projects currently being funded by the US government.

The trip began with a visit to the Ecole Charles Lebossé to participate in a distribution of shoes and medicine to school children as part of a programme aimed at fighting “neglected tropical diseases” funded by the US Agency for International Development.

That project is helping to support Haiti’s Ministries of Public Health and Population and Education.

It is being implemented by the Research Triangle Institute and the International Medical Alliance in collaboration with shoe brand TOMS.

Her next stop included a meeting with Fernando Capellan, CEO of Grupo M, which manages the CODEVI industrial park near Ouanaminthe on the Haiti-Dominican Republic border.

Approximately 7,000 Haitians reportedly work at the park.

Concluding the tour, White visited the Hotel du Roi Christophe in Milot, where she participated in a forum involving the heads of jurisdiction of the judicial branch of Cap-Haitien.

In a release, White announced that the US, through USAID, is launching the PROJUSTICE project, which aims to provide technical assistance to judicial institutions and judicial officers, in Haiti’s northeastern region.

The project, which was launched in 2009, has been implemented in areas near Port-au-Prince.
