The new Paradisus Cancun Resort in Mexico will be opening Dec. 1, Melia Hotels International announced, the latest addition to the plethora of Cancun hotels.

The property, which is a transformation of the former Gran Melia Cancun, is the fifth property in Melia’s luxury all-inclusive portfolio. It is 15 minutes from the airport on the Caribbean Sea.

It features 678 suites, which include 137 Royal Service Suites and 97 Family Concierge Suites, along with six restaurants, five bars and the Tempo by Martin Berasategui restaurant.

The latter is the brainchild of Michelin star Chef Martin Berasategui, who partnered with Paradisus last year to open a signature series of restaurants at the brand’s hotels.

“Our guests had been asking for comprehensive all-inclusive options and higher-end family focused and adults-only amenities, and it was evident that the Cancun area was missing a true luxury all-inclusive Cancun resort experience,” said Andre Gerondeau, executive vice president at Melia Hotels International. “We knew we had to bring the brand to the area in order to offer a distinct experience that would set the property apart from the rest of the marketplace.”

Paradisus Cancan will also include a YHI Spa.

Paradisus currently has four other hotels in the Caribbean region; two in the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana area and two in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen.
