Grenada MP Peter David, who resigned April 30 as the country’s Tourism Minister, has no plans of leaving politics.

David’s was the first of two high-profile resignations from Prime Minister Tillman Thomas’ ruling National Democratic Congress in a less-than-30-day period in May; the second was Foreign Minister Karl Hood.

“I am not getting out of politics and I am not abandoning the people,” he said at a meeting of the Town of St George Constituency Group of the NDC on Thursday. “I will be running in the next general election and I believe I will win.”

David, who is the party’s general secretary, has been the Member of Parliament for the Town of St George since 2003.

“I believe the NDC can win the next general election, but there are things that need to be done,” he said. “We were elected to make people’s lives better. That is what we were elected to do as politicians, and I believe this government can do better.”

David outlined a series of activities planned for the constituency in the coming months, including a flea market in Melville Street, a series of health fairs and efforts aimed at meeting people’s housing and employment needs, among others.

Grenada’s cabinet saw another minor shakeup this month with the reassignment of former Labour Minister Glynis Roberts to the Ministry of Environment, and the additions of Labour and Social Security to the portfolio of Social Development Minister Sylvester Quarless.
