The Dominican Liberation Party’s Danilo Medina will be the next president of the Dominican Republic, according to provisional results from the country’s Central Election Board.

Current First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez was elected the country’s next vice president.

Medina is a former Secretary of State of the Presidency and President of the country’s Chamber of Deputies. He beat out former President Hipolito Mejia of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

Her husband, Leonel Fernandez, has been the Dominican Republic’s president since 2004.

The PLD won 2,323,150 votes, or 51.2 percent of the electorate, compared to the PRD and its allies, which totaled 2,129,997 votes, or 46.95 percent.

Three alternative parties collected the remainder of the votes.

Medina’s win means Fernandez’ DLP will remain in power.
