Cayman Islands law enforcement and immigration officers are looking for two Cuban refugees who escaped from the territory’s Immigration Detention Centre Saturday night.

Four Cubans escaped from the centre, while two were recaptured, according to the government on the George Town waterfront.

The missing men are part of a group of 28 Cubans who arrived by boat on Cayman Brac April 18.

That boat included 27 men and 1 woman. The boat developed problems with its rudder in Cayman territorial waters. The boat was reportedly low on fuel at the time.

The government did not say how the escape unfolded.
