Panama President Ricardo Martinelli has inaugurated information technology firm KIO Networks’ new data centre in the Panama Pacifico development.

The facility will be KIO’s new regional headquarters, and the company’s first office in Central America.

Martinelli called the firm’s decision to open the centre a breakthrough for Panama.

The development of the complex involved a $35 million initial investment. It consists of two data centers within an almost 65,000-square-foot facility.

It will include outsourcing processes, business continuity services, cloud computing and security services, among other features.

The project is expected to add 100 local jobs in Panama, in addition to the 1,200 employees that KIO has in Mexico, where it has 11 data centres.
