Barbados Looks to Sports Tourism

Barbados is aiming to position itself as a destination for sports tourism, according to Shelly Carrington, Permanent Secretary in the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

“The benefits of sports tourism include economic and community development, positive youth development, increased fitness levels and health as well as community and cultural celebration,” she said.

Carrington cited several previous events the country had hosted, from the World Cup of Golf to the Cricket World Cup.

Barbados has also recently made a push in the area of motor racing.
