Ambassador Conrod Hunte, Antigua and Barbuda’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been appointed the chair of the United Nations budget negotiations in the Fifth Committee.

Hunte will oversee budget talks for the two-year period from 2012-2013.

Last week, Secretary General Bank Ki-moon unveiled a budget proposal of $5.2 billion for the world boy, which includes $1 billion for special political missions relating to peace and security.

“It is now up to the member states to discuss and decide in the next few weeks on the ultimate budget to be adopted by the General Assembly in December for the next two years,” said Hunte.

The Fifth Committee is the General Assembly’s committee in charge of administration and budgetary matters.
