Heavy Rains Lead to at Least 23 Deaths in Still-Vulnerable Port-Au-Prince

Heavy rains in Haiti have led to the deaths of at least 23 people this week. The rain, which caused flashfloods and mudslides, followed 10 days of showers, and underscored the problems still facing Haiti’s earthquake-ravaged capital, Port-au-Prince. “The great vulnerability of both Port-au-Prince and the country as a whole is clearly evident in the aftermath of this most recent storm,” said Alice Jean-Baptiste, an emergency coordinator for ActionAid, an anti-poverty agency.
