Carnival Relaunching Caribbean Cruises From New York

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 19, 2022

Carnival Cruise Line is set to relaunch its Caribbean cruise operations out of New York’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

The company’s Carnival Magic cruise ship officially arrived in New York this week, with an initial four-day cruise to Bermuda.

That will be followed by a series of 15 different sailings in the summer and fall, the vast majority of which will head to the Eastern Caribbean, with stops in ports like Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic; Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos; Half Moon Cay in The Bahamas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and St Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, among others.

Carnival Magic has made several upgrades, including the addition the Caribbean-themed RedFrog Pub, Italian eatery Cucina del Capitano and SkyCourse, the suspended ropes course.

The ship will also be making six sailings to Bermuda, and another nine-day sailing to the Eastern Caribbean.

Carnival first launched cruises out of New York in 1998.

“With our return to New York, we now have restarted guest operations in all of 14 of our U.S. homeports,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “New York has been a wonderful partner for more than two decades, and we are delighted to provide versatile vacation options from this popular market again.”

It’s Carnival’s first cruising operation in New York since the onset of the pandemic, the company said.

The company returned its full 23-ship fleet to operations last month.

It’s adding a new ship to the fleet, the Excel-class Carnival Celebration, in November.
