Saint Lucia Set for First Cruise Ship Call Since Pandemic Began

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 27, 2021

Saint Lucia is set for the return of cruise tourism to the island this week.

Celebrity Millennium will call on Port Castries on June 29, marking the beginning of the gradual reintroduction of cruise tourism to Saint Lucia.

Celerity Millennium is currently sailing itineraries out of Port St Maarten. It was the first cruise ship to resume operations in the Caribbean since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

“It’s a great day for vendors, taxi drivers, workers of the duty-free stores at Pointe Seraphine, and the general economy,” said Saint Lucia Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee. “This is another step towards the successful reopening of our economy and returning to our normal lives.”

For now, passengers on the ships are encouraged to be vaccinated prior to travel and pre-tested.

All passengers disembarking in Saint Lucia will do so in groups of 25.

All fully vaccinated passengers will be issued a wristband and allowed to enjoy “expanded access to the island, including shopping, dining, beaches and more,” according to Saint Lucia’s government.

Unvaccinated passengers, as well as vaccinated adults traveling with unvaccinated minors, will be accommodated in a bubble, transferred to designated, certified sites and attractions.
