Turks and Caicos, USVI Seeing Surge in Travel Demand

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 5, 2021

Turks and Caicos and the United States Virgin Islands are seeing a surge in travel demand, according to a new report from insurance aggregator Squaremouth.

According to the company’s latest research, Turks and Caicos has seen more year over year growth in demand than any other destination.

The British overseas territory has seen year-over-year growth of 536 percent on the company’s platform, followed by the US Virgin Islands at 137 percent.

“Countries that have remained open throughout the pandemic have seen a significant surge in travel,” says Squaremouth Lead Data Analyst, Steven Benna. “This includes countries that have never been among our most popular destinations for US travelers, such as Turks and Caicos and the US Virgin Islands.”

It’s part of a broader surge for the Caribbean, the company said.

More than 20 percent of travelers using Squaremouth are going to the Caribbean, nearly double the pre-pandemic rate, the company said.

Squaremouth, which aggregates travel insurance policies, said its data was the result of examining thousands of travel insurance policies purchased pre and post-pandemic.
