Barbados Launching Updated Health Protocols for Visitors

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 27, 2020

The island of Barbados has announced an update to its travel protocols for visitors, headlined by new testing requirements and required self-monitoring throughout a visitor’s stay.

That includes the requirement of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within three days before arrival for all visitors from “medium and high-risk” countries like the United States, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, among others.

Barbados is also going to retest all travelers from medium and high-risk countries 2-3 days after arrival in Barbados.

For the first two days of their trips, visitors will be limited to the grounds of their hotel, resort or villa, until they take their second COVID-19 test.

The second test results typically take 24 hours to receive, according to Barbados officials.

Once a traveler tests negative on their second test, they will no longer be restricted to their property.

Notably, Barbados will also require self-monitoring for all travelers, with daily self-temperature checks, the results of which have to be shared with Barbados’ public health teams via call or text.

The monitoring will be in place for seven days or the length of the trip, whichever is shorter.

“This pandemic will not keep you from our beautiful beaches, restaurants and attractions, so get ready to enjoy yourself,” Barbados Tourism said In a statement.

The new protocols will take effect Oct. 1.
