Preliminary results from the St Lucian election show former Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony’s St Lucia Labour Party has defeated the ruling United Workers Party to regain control of the government, according to the country’s Electoral Department.

The early totals show a victory of nine seats for Anthony and eight for Prime Minister Stephenson King’s UWP.

“Yesterday, the people voted to bring better days to St Lucia,” the party said in a statement on its website. “We are humbled and honoured by the trust placed in us by the people.”
