Grenada and China, with backing from the private sector, have opened Tri-Centennial Park, to commemorate the Town of St George, which celebrated its 300th anniversary last year.

The park was officially opened yesterday afternoon, with Prime Minister Tillman Thomas joined by officials from several countries, including Chinese Ambassador Xu Jianguo, Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Perez and Cuban Ambassador Angel Reigosa de la Cruz.

The project, which was spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, received funding from China as part of a twinning of the Town of St George with the Chinese city of Foshan.

Park officials said the new facility a aimed as a place of relaxation and a venue for performers, painters and other artists.
