Dominica’s landmark Fort Young Hotel has named a new general manager, the property announced this week.

The Fort Young has tapped Jose Abreu as its new general manager, in which role he will oversee the complete operation of the property, including the final phase of the hotel’s renovations.

The downtown Roseau hotel is one of the signature places to stay in Dominica.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Abreu is a veteran of the Caribbean hotel industry, having served most recently as general manager of the ACOYA Curacao hotel.

“I’m excited to join Fort Young Hotel and lead this landmark resort into its next phase,” Abreu said in a statement. “It’s an iconic Caribbean property that has garnered so much respect and appreciation, by both locals and visitors. My passion is to serve, to help people around me to become better human beings and to add value to their lives. I never lose the focus of recognizing the most important resource, which is people.”

The hotel has become one of the centerpieces of Dominica’s tourism renaissance in recent years.
