Delta Is Adding More Capacity to Puerto Rico

Citing increased holiday travel to the island, Delta Air Lines is adding more capacity to San Juan for the peak winter season.

The airline said it was upsizing two of the aircraft types used to serve its Atlanta-San Juan route.

The route will operate two of its daily flights with a Boeing 757-200 and an Airbus A300-300 aircraft.

“Thanksgiving marks a sharp increase in travel to San Juan and the influx of visitors is sustained during the winter season due to the great amount of holiday festivities which culminate with the San Sebastian Street Festival,” said Agustin Durand, Delta’s General Manager for Central America and the Caribbean. “Our customers flock to Puerto Rico because it is known for its vibrant culture, biodiversity, gastronomy and hospitality.”

The capacity increase will take effect Nov. 3, with the Atlanta-San Juan DL 1387 flight route operating daily on a Boeing 757-200 plane with 199 seats.

From Dec. 21 through March 31, 2020, the airline will transition its DL 559 flight route to a 293-passenger aircraft.

“We are proud to be part of that movement saying: Puerto Rico is open for business. Delta has served San Juan for 66 years, making it the market with the longest uninterrupted service in Latin America and the Caribbean and we are pleased to offer business and leisure customers the best in operational reliability and customer service,” Durand said.
