Jamaica is seeing a surge in tourism revenue, according to a new report from the country’s Ministry of Tourism.
The island is expected to generate a record $3.3 billion USD in tourism earnings for 2018, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said this week.
That represents a 9 percent increase in tourism revenue inflows compared to 2017, Bartlett said.
“That means that the $3.3 billion will be a new benchmark for earnings in tourism in Jamaica,” Bartlett said. “When we do the math, we would see that in two years we would have had $800 million of additional earnings.”
It’s a strong sign for the island as visitor arrivals have jumped by 5.3 percent for the year, compared to the same period in 2017.
