Tryall Club Set to Complete Golf Course Renovation

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 30, 2017

This October, the Tryall Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will complete the two-phase renovation of its world-class championship golf course.

The renovation aims to treat guests to” outstanding conditions with strategic holds that offer shot value and variety.”

Though the overall concept of the greens will remain unchanged, usable space and interior contours are being adjusted to ensure greater enjoyment, while greens are being rebuilt to modern standards and situated to provide a sustainable surface for the future, the property said.

The renovation also encompasses bunkers and surrounding grading, delivering a “visual facelift” to better define lines of play, and leaving the course with a “refined, yet rustic, Old World feel,” according to the property.

Designed by Ralph Plummer in 1961, the 6,800-yard, 18-hole Par 72 course winds through the 2,200-acre estate, blending the estate’s layout with the coastline and landscape’s natural features.

The course has hosted several iconic events and tournaments, including the Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf in 1963, LPGA-Senior PGA Mazda Championships, LPGA Jamaica Classic and the Johnnie Walker World Championship from 1991-95, attracting Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, and other stars of that generation.
