St Lucia PM Looks to Improve Transport to Martinique

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 30, 2016

New St Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet is looking to improve transportation between St Lucia and Martinique.

The Prime Minister said he was “not happy” with the standard of existing ferry service between the two islands in the Eastern Caribbean.

“It is one of the first things that we are going to be addressing,” he disclosed.

He said he also intended to address the issue of air transport between the two islands.
“The cost of flying between Martinique and Saint Lucia is prohibitive,” Chastanet observed, adding that there is currently only one flight daily.

He said he will be moving quickly to deal with the situation, an improvement that could boost both economic activity between the two islands and the prospect of multi-island tourism.
