The Caribbean hotel construction pipeline is rising, according to the latest numbers from hotel analytics firm STR.
The Caribbean-Mexico region has seen a 9.3 percent year-over-year increase in the number of rooms in construction, according to the report.
Overall, there are 28,715 rooms across 178 projects under contract, although that number was down 3.8 percent in April compared to the previous year.
Under contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
Overall, the region reported 12,809 rooms in 79 projects in construction in April.
The Yucatan Peninsula on Mexico’s Caribbean coast reported 1,795 rooms in eight hotels in construction.
