CARICOM Looks at State of Cricket

During the CARICOM Meeting of Heads of Government in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis in July, the conference expressed serious doubt about the future of West Indies cricket.

Accordingly, led by Charirnan Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket met yesterday in Port of Spain to discuss the future of the sport.

Joining Spencer were Prime Ministers Bruce Golding of Jamaica, Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad, Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo and Barbados Foreign Minister Maxine McClean.

The group announced a series of proposals aimed at helping the sport, including carrying out an assessment of prevailing arrangements for the governance of cricket in the region, revisiting the final report of the Committee on Governance of West Indies Cricket from 2007 and engaging sporting associations and other stakeholders to hear their take on the future of Cricket.
