How This Caribbean Hotel Is Helping Homeless Dogs and Cats

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 20, 2016

Like many Caribbean islands, Aruba has had a long battle with overpopulation of dogs and cats.

But now one hotel has a creative idea to help tackle the problem.

Aruba’s Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has launched a new program called “Love me. Sterilize me,” which is providing much-needed spay and neutering surgeries with subsidies from the hotel.

It works simply: pet owners and organizations can go to stimamisterilisami.com to register each pet and receive the special rate on the website. The owners will then receive a call with a registration number that can be used at a veterinary clinic (all island veterinarians on the island are participating).

According to the hotel, it will also be donating microchips that can be implanted into dogs during the operation.

The fees for pet owners and animal organizations are:

  • Crioyo dog (male)       Afl. 75
  • Crioyo dog (female)    Afl. 100
  • Cat (male)                   Afl. 25
  • Cat (female)                Afl. 70
