The Caribbean’s Newest Luxury Resort

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 26, 2015

Aman has officially opened its newest resort in the Caribbean.

The ultra-luxury Amanera, the second Aman property in the Caribbean, includes 25 casitas on Playa Grande Beach in the Dominican Republic’s north coast.

The property is set on a clifftop overlooking Playa Grande, surrounded by jungle and home to the Playa Grande Golf Course.

“Amanera will embody the true spirit of Aman” said Olivier Jolivet, CEO, Aman. “It is the perfect example of how we take an unexpected destination and within it, find the most exceptional and dramatic location to create a sybaritic hideaway unlike any other. Amanera will demonstrate our continued commitment to curating resorts of architectural distinction that harmoniously integrate into the pristine environments they occupy.”

The company said the resort, which was designed by John Heah, captures “the relaxed essence of the Caribbean with a contemporary flair.”

Each of the 25 casitas includes stone from local quarries, indigenous handmade Aguayo tiles and Dominican art and artifacts.

The golf course, which is located on 370 acres, is an original Robert Trent Jones Sr design recently revived by his son, Rees Jones.

Ten of the course’s holes play directly on ocean cliffs, the most of any in the western hemisphere.

“The launch of Amanera is a clear illustration of brand progression and represents a number of firsts for Aman; not only is this our first fully-integrated golf resort, but it is one that unusually presents ocean vistas from every hole,” said Vladislav Doronin, chairman of the board of Aman. “This, our first foray into the Dominican Republic, will provide our guests with access, the Aman way, to yet another unique location.”
