Dominica is “open for business” and ready to welcome visitors to its shores, according to the country’s Minister for Tourism and Urban Renewal, Robert Tonge.

This announcement came at a recent press briefing in which the Minister provided a status update on the island’s tourism industry following the destruction of Tropical Storm Erika.

LIAT, Seaborne, and WINAIR have resumed offering daily flights out of Douglas Charles Airport and Canefield Airport between Dominica and Antigua, Barbados, Puerto Rico, St Maarten, St. Thomas, and St. Croix.

The installation of three Bailey bridges along the west coast has greatly improved road access– the minister reported that most roads are passable and that most main sites and attractions are accessible.

Visitors can enjoy the island’s natural wonders such as Trafalgar Falls, Emerald Pool, Middleham Falls, as well as the black sand beaches at Mero and Purple Turtle.

Hikers can now walk the seven reopened segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail, while divers and snorkelers can into to enjoy dive sites across the north, west, and south coasts, including the popular Champagne Reef.

Over 80 percent of the island’s accommodations are ready to welcome guests, including a variety of boutique hotels, intimate guest houses, and quaint inns.

“We invite all potential guests to visit Dominica,” said Director of Tourism, Colin Piper. “Tourism is a leading growth sector for Dominica’s economy and your visit allows for a sustainable rebuilding and  recovery process post Tropical Storm Erika. We are confident that you will have a transformational experience.”
