A major new ship for NCL

Norwegian Escape, soon to be the largest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, floated out of MYER WERFT’s covered building dock over the weekend, signifying a major milestone in the vessel’s construction.

The 4,200 passenger vessel is the first ship in the line’s Breakaway Plus class, measuring 1,098 feet in length and 236 feet wide, and featuring signature hull artwork designed by marine wildlife artist and conservationist Guy Harvey.

“MEYER WERFT has done an excellent job with the construction of Norwegian Escape,” said Norwegian Cruise Line’s President and Chief Operating Officer Andy Stuart. “The ship’s float out brings us one step closer to bringing the next evolution of Freestyle Cruising to the world and we couldn’t be more excited.”

The vessel now shifts into its final phase of construction – which will entail the mounting of the ship’s Norwegian Cruise Line funnel, as well as a third story to its expansive ropes course– before its conveyance down the river Ems towards the North Sea, scheduled for September 16.

Following inaugural events in Europe and Miami, Norwegian Escape will sail seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises departing from Miami every Saturday beginning November 14.
