Puerto Rico’s Parador Combate Beach in Cabo Rojo has expanded with 12 new “EcoSuites.”

Each of the suites were built with recycled materials, sustainable technologies and energy-saving equipment, according to a release from the office of Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla.

The project cost about $275,000 in investment.

The new units raise the number at the property to 48 rooms.

“This is a sign of the commitment to the environment and sustainable development in Puerto Rico’s inns,” Garcia Padilla said. “The Paradores brand is diversifying and proving to be a strong competitor in the market. On the other hand, we are diversifying our offering even more.”

The green construction methods saved around 60 percent in time and about 50 percent in construction costs.

The Governor said more than 90 percent of the construction materials, appliances and furniture were purchased from local companies, mostly in Cabo Rojo.
